FAQ on our THCA
What Is THCA?
THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the raw, non-psychoactive cannabinoid found naturally in the cannabis plant. It is the acidic precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). In its raw form, THCA does not produce psychoactive effects. However, when exposed to heat through smoking, vaping or cooking, THCA undergoes decarboxylation and converts into THC.
This is why THCA flower, concentrates and pre rolls deliver potent effects when consumed through combustion or vaporization. The THCA content listed on lab reports indicates the potential THC potency after decarboxylation.
THCA and THC: Understanding the Difference
THCA and THC are closely related but chemically distinct. THCA is the raw cannabinoid found in the living plant, containing an extra carboxyl group that prevents it from binding to CB1 receptors in the brain. This is why raw THCA is non-psychoactive.
When you apply heat (lighting a joint, heating a dab rig, baking in an oven), the carboxyl group is removed in a process called decarboxylation, converting THCA into active THC. This is why THCA products can deliver the same effects as traditional THC products when consumed properly.
Potential Benefits of THCA
Research on THCA is still in early stages, but preliminary studies suggest potential anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and anti-nausea properties in its raw form. When converted to THC, the compound may offer pain relief, relaxation, appetite stimulation, mood enhancement and sleep support.
The specific effects depend on the strain type (indica, sativa or hybrid), terpene profile and individual tolerance. Many consumers use THCA products as part of their wellness routine for managing stress, discomfort and sleep issues.

THCA Legal Status
Hemp-derived THCA with less than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis is federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. All TealerLab products meet this requirement and ship with third-party lab results. State laws vary, so always check your local regulations before purchasing.
THCA Safety and Responsible Consumption
All TealerLab THCA products are lab tested by accredited third-party laboratories for potency, purity and contaminants including pesticides, heavy metals and residual solvents. We publish certificates of analysis (COAs) for every batch so you know exactly what you're consuming.
Start low and go slow, especially if you are new to THCA products. Effects can vary significantly based on consumption method, strain type and individual tolerance. Do not operate vehicles or heavy machinery after consuming. 21+ only.
What is the difference between THCA and THC?
THCA is the raw, non-psychoactive form found in the cannabis plant. THC is the active, psychoactive form created when THCA is heated (decarboxylated). They are chemically different by one carboxyl group. When you smoke or vape THCA flower, you are consuming THC.
Is THCA federally legal?
Yes. Hemp-derived THCA products with less than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis are federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. TealerLab ensures all products meet this requirement. Check state laws for local restrictions.
Will THCA products show up on a drug test?
Yes. When THCA is heated and converted to THC, it produces the same metabolites that standard drug tests screen for. If you are subject to drug testing, avoid all THCA products.
